The Supermarket

Well we made it through another day, and i think are becoming more italian. Yesterday we went out first thing in the morning for cappaccino and found ourselves 3 hours later mussing around that the city. we met a store owner named cynthia origianally from canada who has been living in florence for 18years and is our new friend who has took us under her wing. She informed us on the best supermerdo in florence and so we decided to give it a shot, we walked about 3 miles to the supermarket as to take in all of the culture, and it was beautiful. as we entered the doors to the supermarket we learned quite a few things. 1 you pay for a shopping cart and "saving money" by not getting one is really not a save at all, as we were confined to two small hand baskets. 2 you must wear gloves when picking out fruit as all of italy is so sanitary 3 when in the meat isle it is safest to choose chicken breast, not the whole bird, including face, gobble, and feet included, and 4th no one speaks any english in a local supermercado. we then grabbed 3 yellow overstuffed plastic bags each and spend the next hour looking a bus ticket and bus stop, mind you caring the bags the whole way. finally 2 wrong bus stops later we boarded bus 6 and squeezed ourselves right on. we thought that we knew where we were going, but no, we didnt. after passing the train tracks on the faar side of florence the bus route ended and we were shoved onto another, six overstuffed grocery bags and all. this bus, being 6b, and us being utterly confused we sought the help of any and everyone aboard, and found a really cute old man that told us that we could not get to our apt from this bus but showed us where to get off to make the walk the shortest, which was really a half hour power walk, which brough quite a few weird looks from the locals, again the 6 grocery bags getting heavier by the minute, but we were too determine to not use a taxi and "be like the locals" and were completely pooped when we got home, hungery and tired. we decided to take a power nap at 6pm when we got home to re-energise and then woke up at 5:30 this morning, i guess we must have been pretty tired. today was another new day filled with finding straighteners and curling irons across town as to get ready for our school orientation that was long and boring, but i guess informative. On our way back we shopped some more and then came home and made our first italian dish of penne noodles with chicken, pesto and motzerella cheese, it was wonderful and cheap! tonight we have a dinner and dance with our school of 90% girls.. we are excited as everything seems to be an adventure with us filled with tons of laughter, we love you and miss you and would love to hear from all of you!
ciao!
kristin and ashley
